Shortcut key for hanging indent

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

The traditional Word keyboard shortcut for a hanging indent, Command-T isn't working in Word 2008 on my machine. Cmd-T just moves the first line indent in about 2 mm. Word Help says that Cmd-T is still the shortcut for a hanging indent. Is this a bug or is something else happening? Before I set up an application-specific special shortcut for this Tiger, is there anything I can do in Word to get it to work?

I'd say go ahead & assign your own stroke to HangingIndent. Command+T can't
even be reassigned because it's associated with another command that doesn't
appear in the list:-( I don't recall seeing this come up before so I'm
sending it up the line. You might help your own cause a little by using
Help> Send Feedback to report the error.

I found that reassigning cmd-T to HangingIndent (under Format) overrides
the assignment to IndentFirstChar--which I can't find in the list
either. (WTF?)

So you can re-use cmd-T fine. Actually, you can always override a
default assignment by just reusing the command--Word will clear the old
one for you.

Sez you:) I tried that & it didn't work here. I sent a note with a screen
shot of the list where the ubiquitous IndentFirstChar command *should* be
found. I vaguely remember this coming up before but can find nothing on it -
don't know if it was Beta or if it goes back to 2004:-}

Huh. Reassigning worked here. I even tested using cmd-T after. :)
Mysterious! OS 10.4.11, PPC, Office 12.0.1.

Even more mysterious - as you probably noticed Cmd+T was already in\dicated
as being assigned to HangingIndent even though it didn't work. On my MPB
(10.5.0, Ofice 12.0.1) I keyed it in, hit the Assign button & once I OK'd
out it works. I honestly can't remember if I tried that on my other Mac or
not (G5 - 10.4.11, Office 12.0.1) - I'll have to check when I get home.

I'd still like to know where/what this IndentFirsChar command is, though.

Thanks all for your advice. But can you be more specific on how to try reassigning the key command Daiya? You said 'under Format', but I've looked in the obvious locations: Paragraph, Autoformat and Style, and can't see where to reassign key commands to formatting, unless I have to set up a style.

Thanks,

Ross

First go to Tools> Customize Keyboard, then select the Format category &
pick HangingIndent from the commands list. In the "Press new keyboard
shortcut" field Press Command+T (even though it already *appears* to be
assigned) then click the Assign button & OK out.

Wish it would fix it on mine. I'm still using Word 8 on a Tiger system and Command+T even reassigned still does the indent first character.
