Shortcut Toolbar

P

PMorgan

I despise that shortcut toolbar in Office 2002 -- although I have it set to
auto-hide, it ALWAYS seems to peek out just in time to be in my way. Is
there any possible way to get rid of the thing entirely? I don't need it
with the Show Desktop on my taskbar, and I've poked around on
support.microsoft.com and have come up empty so far.

Any advice would be MOST appreciated. I'm running WinXP Home, if that
matters.

Two options: -

1) Re-run set up and set it to 'not available' (red cross)
2) Upgrade to 2003 - MS have finally come to their senses and got rid of
it completely.

Thanks. I'll try it.

Hey Miss Tick,

Can't it be removed by deleted the entry in the Start Menu? Start, Programs,
Startup, Microsoft Office (osa.exe).

Or closing the shortcut toolbar and anwering the prompt.

No. Simply deleting the executable will do nothing more than cause errors
because the registry entries will still exist. You must re-run set-up and
set it to 'not available'.

Or closing the shortcut toolbar and answering the prompt? FWIW, that works
for me.

Both of the options I suggested have worked for me, and every machine I have
worked on. Both Office 2000 and XP. Maybe even 97, if it had the shortcut
bar. Been so long ago I can't remember.

If it is launched from the startup menu, then I doubt the registry would
hold a value to launch it again.

97 did too. Seems like Miss Priss is trying to push buying 2003 to me and
those who don't are beneath the bitch.

Thanks to all. I guess I'm going to have to re-install -- the Close
dialog won't let me exit entirely.

Yeah, right, whatever. I gave him two options - I don't believe I said "in
order to remove the OSB it is imperative that you purchase 2003", but if you
wish to interpret it like that...

Or closing the shortcut toolbar and anwering the prompt?

Hello?

S

Susan Ramlet

Hi, PMorgan,

If you close it, it should ask you if you want it to open in the future.
Answer No.

Alternatively, run setup and uninstall the Shortcut Bar as an individual
component.

Hope that helps,

That is sad. I just purchased and installed Office 2003 and was going to
ask how to get the Office shortcut toolbar. I had the same problems as
PMorgan has but thought the plusses outweighed the minuses.
What are the alternatives in Office 2003 and Windows XP (both new to me)?
