show from an attachment

When using Power Point 2003, if I clicked on an Email attachment filename.pps
I would instantly go directly to the show. Having now upgraded to Office
2007, I find that I have to go through the start-up screen, select Slide
Show, then click on From beginning before I get to finally see the show.

Why do I now have to go through all these additional key-strokes?

Is there any way of going straight to the slide show upon clicking on a
filename.pps attachment?

If there is, it is very well hidden in the current set of Customisation
options !

This might be a "security feature" of your email program. If you save the
file to your harddrive and double-click it, does it open properly in PPT
2007 then?

Good thought, well presented, but unfortunately no, it is not a "security
feature" of Outlook Express. I get the same response when opening from a
saved file location, that is, I still have to go through what I believe to be
unnecessary extra key-strokes to view the presentation.

I suspect that it is in actual fact a new (unnecessary) "security feature"
of Office 2007 ... are you running 2007 and if so, do you get to view
presentations without having to go through all the extra key-strokes?

Just checking.

I can open PPT and PPS files just fine from PowerPoint 2007. As expected,
the PPT opens in an editing View, and the PPS opens in Show View.

The reason I asked is because it's most definitely an issue with OE and
earlier versions of PPT -- due to SP2 for Windows XP. See

Can't open attached presentations from within Outlook Express after applying
Windows XP SP2
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00657.htm

Anyway, for PPT 2007, what does happen when you double-click a PPT or PPS
file on your harddrive? Let's leave the email out of it for a minute so we
can figure out where the problem actually lies.

Double clicking on either file type .PPT or .PPS stored on the HD results in
both opening in an Editing View - ie the slides appear down the left hand
side of the screen and to view a show I then need to select View Show Icon at
the top of the screen.

Thank you.

I think it's just a file association issue, then.

I should have asked what version of Windows. On XP, do this --

Go to My Documents.
Click Tools | Folder Options
Click File Types tab
Choose PPS from the list.
Click Advanced
Choose Show in the Actions list and click Edit.

You should have something like this in the "applicaiton used to perform
action" box:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\POWERPNT.EXE" /s "%1"

The /s tells it to open in Show View.

If you don't have a "Show" option listed in the Actions list, click New and
add it.

Thank you - spot on! I don't know how it got changed, but it was set to open
with Internet Explorer, not Power Point - all works fine now. Many thanks for
your persistance.
