Show/Hide button

When opening word documents even though the show/hide
button is not activated the tabs, paragraph markers etc
appear on the document.

On the View tab of Tools | Options, clear all the check boxes under
"Nonprinting characters" or "Formatting marks." The Show/Hide ¶ button just
toggles between display of all NPC and the ones explicitly checked on the
View tab.

Suzanne, we unchecked all the boxes but when we went out
of the document and back in again, word itself is re-
ticking the boxes - any thoughts

Try this:

1. Quit Word.

2. Restart Word.

3. Clear all the check boxes.

4. Quit Word.

5. Restart Word.

6. Open your document.

What do you see now?

Hi Suzanne, that worked for some documents but not
others. We have a situation where one user opens up the
documents and whilst the show/hide button is not active
all the marks are showing. I can then go into the same
document and the marks are not showing. This is only
happening with one user. When this user then opens
another word doc it shows these marks. However doing your
instructions below have made other docs ok except for this
one. We have reset the users profile - it seems problem
only relates to this one user - any thoughts? Regards

I'd suggest that this indicates a possible corruption of the Word Data key,
which stores the settings of the Options dialog. See
