Show resource usage totals over a range of tasks

Folks,

Is there any way to show the resource usage over just a range of
tasks.

If I select View->Resource Usage I get the totals for all my resources
over the entire project. Not what I want because the totals are for the
entire project.

I want to be able to select a range of tasks (either clicking in the
GUI or entering a task range) , for example all of my FAT tasks, and get
a Resource Usage view which just shows the totals from that range not
the entire project.

Is this possible?

(Please let me know if I haven't made myself clear - I am fairly new
to Project)

It's sort of doable....I assume you're using MS Project 2007...

1) You need to create some sort of custom field that is going to flag the
tasks you are looking for. Either use a formula or manually enter it. When
creating the field, make sure to toggle the Roll Down to Assignment Rows
option.
2) Assign resources to tasks.
3) Go to the Task Usage view. Set up a new Grouping by going to Project
Group By > New: Resource Name (Assignments), and your new custom code (Assignments).
The trick is to toggle it to group by assignments and not tasks.

This will then total up the resources, and then split out the tasks you are
looking for. The only trick is to make sure the custom code is updated appropriately.

Sadly I'm using Project 2003 in which I think "Roll Down to Assignment
Rows
option" does not appear. But thanks for the reply.
