Show when unread email received in collapsed folder

I like keeping my emails in folders in a tree structure, e.g.,
Business v Personal, then within Business, client versus prospect,
then by client, then by project. I would normally keep most of that
tree structure collapsed, but would want to see if I got new mail in
one of those collapsed folders. Is there a way to make that show up in
the parent folder?

In thunderbird, I can't see how many new messages there are in
subsidiary folders, but at least the higher level folders of a folder
with new mail are bolded.

No, not at the physical folder, but you can do this by creating a Search
Folder which displays the unread items of specific folders that you select.
In your case, you can create separate Search Folders for Business and
Personal or even by client.

"Physical folder"? No, I'm not printing them out to store in a
physical folder ;-)
(But I get what you meant!)

Thanks! I haven't explored the search folder capability, and hadn't
thought of that. Might just do the trick!

P.S. Just looked at the sites mentioned in your sig. Great resource!

LOL about the physical folder; everything actually might be truly relative
;-)
