Shows two unread messages when there are none

When I boot my computer, at the login screen I am told that I have two
unread message when actually I have none. What can I do about that?

You could edit the registry, but using Tweak UI is safer.

Scroll down the right column to Tweak UI and download TweakUI.exe
Expand Logon>Unread Mail and uncheck 'Show unread mail on Welcome screen
