Sick Of Outlook Reminders About Completed Meetings

Hi Gang

Is there any way to tell Outlook not to remind me of meetings that
have already ended?

I'm sure prior to version 2003 we had our system set so that when a
meeting was over you would not get notifed about that meeting. Now
with 2003 unless you specifically dismiss the notification you get
bombarded with notifications about meetings that are already over
(very annoying).

Can someone tell me if I'm losing my mind or if I can do something
about this?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Milly

I asked out network admin about Start->run->outlook.exe /
cleanreminders.

He tells me that's for just cleaning up periodic reminders that get
messed up.

I'm asking if you can set outlook to not send you reminders about
meetings that have ended regardless if you've dismissed the meeting
notification or not.

Regards,
Andy

Your network admin is giving you the brushoff.

See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP010031101033.aspx

However, you will need to dismiss reminders for meetings where you yourself snoozed them and failed to dismiss instead. The above switch will get rid of past reminders that have been dismissed but refuse to stop popping up.

Thanks Milly

Just to be clear, I can't set Outlook to not remind me at all of a
past meeting regardless if I've dismissed the notification or not?\\

Err, not exactly.

If you've dismissed the notification, you should *not* see a notification
for that meeting again. Unless. (there's always an unless)

a) If someone updates the meeting and sends out the update, you will get a
new reminder that needs to be dismissed.
b) If you happen to be syncing to your smartphone and you snooze on the
phone and dismiss on the desktop, it is conceivable that you might see an
alert on your desktop. Not by design, mind you, just by freaky
circumstances that sometimes happen =)

Now, if I understood your original question, where you get a reminder 15
minutes before your meeting and you lock the workstation, walk to the
meeting and the come back and hour after the meeting, you would like to not
have that reminder sitting around. I wish, but no, a reminder doesn't go
away just because the meeting is in the past.

The cleanreminders switch is for the situation where you get a reminder over
and over, even after you have dismissed the reminder for that event, or it
won't even go away, or you're not getting any reminders. Alas, it won't
save us from laziness.

Hi F.H.

You kind of got my original question. What I would like to happen is
Outlook remind me of a meeting. No problem it does that. I may or
may not dismiss the notification. What I would like to happen is when
the meeting is actually over that Outlook stop sending me reminder
notifications of that meeting. It's over, don't bother me any
more! :) Instead it keeps reminding me of a meeting that is over
until I actually dismiss the reminder. I thought that there'd be a
checkbox somewhere in the Options regarding reminders that says "Don't
notify me after a meeting is over".

Any thoughts?

Get on the next beta and file a suggestion asking for the feature. =) (Or
go through the web based interface at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx and post it as
a feature request)

-and/or-

Hire someone to write a macro to dismiss the events for you automatically
(or learn how to do it yourself. Nothing like an actual goal to help you
learn a new programming language).

The feature isn't in the product out of the box.
