&-sign in dropdown

I've got a question of a user asking me a particular question about
dropdowns in Word 2000. The environment is Windows NT4.0.
Het wants the &-sign to appear not only in the dropdown.
I know I have to enter it twice in the properties to make it appear in
the dropdown itself.
I don't know if it's possible to make it appear in the "formfield"
after the choice has been made. It appears like Laurel_Hardy instead
of Laurel & Hardy just for example.
I suppose it will be requiring some VBA.

I'd appreciate any help.

I'm not sure I posted it to the right group. If anybody knows if this
is possible, and if so how I'd appreciate you'd tell me anyway.
