Similar but different problem with Entourage crash

Hello,

I too experience the Entourage crash with the EXC_BAD_ACCESS
exception, however, for the most part Entourage always works. It
starts without error and I read my messages, however, I just happen to
read n number of messages and it crashes. I send the problem report
to Microsoft and restart and continue to work, until the next crash.
For me this is more an annoyance then a severe problem. Following is
an excerpt from the error log:

Microsoft Error Reporting log version: 2.0

Well known issue with no fix. You can turn off download pictures in
Entourage Preferences > Security to Never. Click on the download link to
view pictures. The crashes also seem to be tied to how fast you are moving
through messages. In addition messages that link to pictures online are more
susceptible to the crashes since they take longer to get the pictures
downloaded. Messages with accented characters also seem to play a part in
the crashes.

Thank you! That's good information. I too believe it has something
to do with how fast I move through the unread messages, and agree it
has something to do with images too. Very frustrating, but usable.
Is it safe to assume this is something Microsoft is looking into? I'm
looking forward to the new Outlook for Mac and hope this issue has
been resolved in that product.

Yes, Microsoft is working with Apple on this issue, but the fact that it has
not been fixed after so much time, does not give me encouragement that it
will eventually be fixed.

If you have enough room to create a partition of about 20GB, you can install
Snow Leopard and Office and test. (this will actually take about 8GB, but
the extra space is for virtual memory and testing other applications) If the
problem goes away, then you would want to move everything to a new install
being careful not to bring over the problem by using migration.

I had the same issue and the ONLY steps I could take to correct it was to boot into the OSX Install disk and repair the drive. This should fix your issue. The "create new user account" method of copying "global plist" settings I read here in the forums did not work FOR ME either.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782

detailed process here:
http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=3810

Again, this corrected my "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" error in Entourage 2008.

I hope this helps!

After implementing a proxy PAC network setting, Entourage crashed on every HTML message. I changed the PAC to a WPAD schema, and this remedied the whole problem. WPAD is the same file as the proxy.pac just saved as wpad.dat with entries in DNS and MIME types on the web server that hosts it. See details at wikipedia by searching wpad.
