Simple Copy and Paste in Excel XP not working constantly

My copy and paste functions are not working.
For example:
If I Open a new work-book
type the word "hello"
Copy it
Move 2 cells down and paste
It pastes "hello" - great
Move down two futher cells
Paste again
I get a large, empty picture box

(which ever methods of copy and paste I use I get the same problem, if
I go for paste special only the picture paste options are available)

This is now happening more often that not and is driving me just a bit
potty - any help please?

Could this be a workbook that has existing macros that activate when
something changes? Something else is obviously getting to the clipboard.
Watch for certain signs.
Initially copy the cell, you get the marching ants (dotted line) around that
cell, right? So after you paste the first time, those dotted lines should
continue to have the moving dotted lines around that same cell. If the
lines are gone, then something else has been captured to the clipboard.

Good luck,
Paul

Paul - thank you for your posting

Yes, you are right, the marching ants disapear when the paste stops
working properly, but in a new work book? - how can this have macros?

You are correct. You should not have any macros in a new workbook. Could
there be another application running that would be performing a Copy
function either periodically or after certain key presses? Just a thought.
You may also try displaying the Office Clipboard and use that to Copy and
Paste. Then you should be able to see exactly when the picture item is
going to the clipboard. To view the clipboard, go to
View-Toolbars-Clipboard.

Good Luck.

Well, today it will not play up, which is good for me, but not good for
solving the problem! - Next time it happens, I will open the clipboard
as advised. Thank you for all your time. Censa
