Simple Milestone list

K

Keith Duncan

Our organization is using Project server 2007. Each project uses Projet Web
Access.
Is it possible to have just a simple milstone list on the project web page
that is dynamically linked to key milestones in the project schedule?

Senior management only wants to see a simple listing of key project
milestone dates.

I had hoped that the "Deliverables" option within the "Collaboration" set
would achieve this, but learned that this is actually driven from the web
page to the mpp file.

You could create a Project Details view in PWA that filters out all
tasks that are not Milestones. Not sure if this meets your needs.
Are you trying to report on an enterprise level (across all projects)
or just on the project level (individually for each project)?

If you do not already have an Enterprise Custom Flag field for Key
Deliverables, create one, name it, tag the tasks that are Key Deliverables
and Publish the schedules.

Take a view like Summary, make a copy, and below Format View is the section
for Filter where you can select the Key Deliverables field and set it to
'Yes'.

Keith:

It's relatively easy to display only milestone tasks in a PWA Project Detail
view. Simply set the filter to milestone = "yes." You may need to set a
custom task field to better filter these if your project managers add a lot
of milestones that your management isn't interested in. If you're trying to
look at milestones across many projects, it would be easier to create an SRS
report to display these.

Thanks for the suggestions. However it would be preferable to be able to have
just a simple list. Our management do not want schedule views that come with
using the "project detail" view. There is real push back on this topic.
Any suggestions on being able to link to a simple list would be much
appreciated.
Thanks
Keith

Keith:

Chances are they simply don't want to call up Web Access to get there. Put
the web part on a different page and don't tell them they're using a
"Project Detail" view. Add some stoplight indicators and set the splitter
bar to 1000 pixel offset so they don't see the Gantt portion. They'll think
your both a genius and a hero.
