single category of appointments in calander d/w/m view

In my pocket pc's version of office, I can open my calendar and then choose
which category(s) of appointments I see. I cannot however do the same on
Outlook on my desktop. If I want to view all appointments of a particular
category I have to sort them by category and this changes the view.
SPECIFICLY
Each day I have reoccurring "appointments" (assigned the category of
"daily") that are actually reminders of things like chores, errands, taking
medication etc. I also enter my work schedule as appointments (assigned the
category of "work"). On the 31day calendar view, I would like to see what
days/times I work and which I have off at a glance. Presently, each day only
shows the first 5 appointments which are the routine (daily) things I do. I
work at night so these appointments are chronologicly last.
