Single point for editing? (network diagram)

I am creating mutliple network diagrams and hyperlinking them together for
navigation. In some cases within multiple documents I have the same object
appear. Is there a way to link that object to a single diagram so that when
i make a change to that specific item it changes it in all of the other
diagrams (ex. delete it, change text, etc...)?

for some of it linking each of the shapes to the same
datarecord/datarecordsets should do it. For others you would have to write
custom code.
