They're the logs that the server creates that records the
visitors IP address, times/dates, referring URL and so on.
Sometimes these can get very large on a popular site.
I once did a site for a lingerie company and their logs we over
200 Mb monthly, with only about 500 unique visitors per day. The
client wanted to keep these but after she exceeded her disk space
on the server after just a few months she had me delete all logs
older than 2 months!
Again, not all hosts count these logs to your space, but many do
so it's wise to find out for sure from your host.
