sizing of window in Word

When I open new or old documents in Word the top of the window i
covered by the tool bar. How can I change the default position of th
window in Word

You don't say which version of Word you're using, but your toolbar(s)
have probably become undocked. Try using the grab handle to move the
toolbar(s) up slightly until they snap into place.
