Why the change & who's responsible I have no idea, but if you use the Slide
Design panel in the Change Slides group of the Formatting Palette it serves
the same purpose - plus you don't have to go into a separate dialog.
The names aren't printed in the palette by they do appear in tool tips when
you hover on one.
