Slides revert to Blank layout 2007 to 2003

I have created in PPT 2003 but my client has opened, made minor text edits
and resaved in 2007, selecting the 97-2003 format option.

When I reopen the file in 2003, in addition to the linked masters being
unlinked and the title master messed up, all the slides are now utilizing the
"blank" layout. I have followed the same process on my systems which have
both 2003 and 2007 installed (Vista OS) and get the same results. The slides
appear fine, but without layouts assigned, it seems pretty sloppy and could
be problematic.

Is this just the way it is or is there any workaround short of fixing the
masters and reapplying the layouts?

This is the way it works. It's because of the differences between the way
2007 and 2003 handle masters and layouts.

I see the same thing with blank layouts when files have been worked on on a
Mac (presumably PPT 2008, which is very similar to PPT 2007 on the PC, but
maybe also with 2004, I don't know).

The title slides are usually the worst of the issues. If you reapply the
other layouts, PPT will generally still recognize the placeholders. I don't
usually worry about those too much.

Thanks, that's what I thought. That is an annoyance since the masters weren't
touched in 2007. I appreciate your response.

But it's been a problem for awhile, so I think it (2004) could still give me
blank layouts when I open it on the PC...
