Slow Mail Merge with Word 2003

Hi,
Is anyone having trouble with slow, I mean really slow, mail merges. I'm
trying to create 1,700 labels and the job has been running for 15 minutes
with no indication it will ever end. We've created hundreds of sets of
labels over the years but Office 2003 has not been good to us in this area.
The setup is a little more difficult, but we've gotten it down now. The time
it takes to run larger batches is not acceptible. Any thoughts or help would
be most appreciated.
