Slow Open Dialog

I have recently install Word XP on my windows 2000 laptop
on NTFS formatted disk.

I open the open dialog and then try and navigate it takes
about a minute for each individual navigation, so if I
where to use this method it can take several minutes to
get to a files location.

Does anyone know a fix - someone mentioned something about
open office will that fix it.

Other causes are not having a default printer driver install locally on the
Notebook or using mapped drives under Tools, Options, File Locations tab.
Solutions are fairly easy: install a printer driver locally and change file
locations to UNC paths.
