Slow opening and closing for Word2002

I am using Word 2002 with XP HE, and recently the time
taken for Word to open a file, and to close it, has
increased to 5-6 seconds, or more.
I have defragmented the disc, but this had no effect.
Does anyone have some suggestions for reducing these times?

Well, I'm out of ideas then (unless there's a network involved), but perhaps
someone else can help.

No, there's no network, just my desk computer.
Anyway, thanks for thinking about the problem.
By the way, did my finding that opening a file, once Word
is open, is almost instantaneous, provide any clues?

Not to me, I'm afraid. Since I keep Word open all day, the only way I open
Word documents is with Word already open, so I don't have any experience
with the comparison, but it seems reasonable to me that if Word is not
already open it would take time for Word to load, then open the doc.
