Slow opening documents from server

I pull documents all day from a shared drive on my server. As the day
progresses, it takes an extremely long time to pull up the documents and
there is a delay when typing in these documents. It happens on all 4
workstations i have. There is no problem with sharing violations, network
performance, updates, etc.
