Everything was working great. Now without warning Excel and Word files take forever to open. Can anyone help me out?

If it is only slow at the file opening, then it may be
the virus scan (watch just above Start button)it does
this before opening every file?
If it's slow starting when starting the program, then
join our club?

I have the same issue. For me everything was working fine
until I updated with the latest Office 2003 update.. If
you are experiencing the same after the update, then
something is up with the new update.

Me too! Working fine, then updated office. Now Word and
Excel take between 1 and 2 minutes to come up. Same on
two computers. I can't believe it!

I'm guessing these are all related to the latest Norton update.

from Symantec suggests turning off certificates in IE.

describes how to disable the Office plug-in (which you should do anyway,
as far as I'm concerned). It's a PPT kb article, but the instructions
for disabling the plug-in are good.
