Slow process of adding hyperlinks in any Office app

R

Robert

We have created a process that requires us to insert hyperlinks into office
documents but when retrieving the files in the "insert hyperlink" dialog it
is extremely slow. We have about 100 documents in the folder we are looking
in and it takes 30-40 seconds to populate. It is much faster when looking at
the docs in Windows Explorer. Is this just how the insert hyperlinks control
parses through the files? Is there any way at all to speed it up?

Hi Robert,

The Ctrl+K (Insert Hyperlink) dialog is a bit slow to
read and then sort through all of file shortcuts that
have built up.

You can use Insert=>Field=>Hyperlink=>[Field Codes]
to manually create the links without that dialog
or type the item you want linked into Word as
text and use either the Hypertext setting in
'Autoformat as you type'.

You can also create a dummy hyperlink with the formatting
or Hyperlink field switches you want, store it
as an autotext entry (Insert=>Autotext),
insert it when needed in your document then use Alt+F9
to expose the Hyperlink field code and edit the link
text there.
