slow running word

Hello,
Word 2000 was running very slowly (starting and
terminating the program, opening and closing documents
and print preview). Installing Word 2003 the problem has
been worse. Any suggestions?

There's million reasons why it may be slow. Please give us more information
about your OS, your computer and your printer. Also, how did you install
W2003> Did you uninstall W2000 or install W2003 straight over it?

I use Windows XP, HP Pavilion 770 with 512 MB DDR-SDRAM,
1,8 GHz Intel Pentium 4. Brother HL-1250 and Epson Stylus
Photo 1290 printers.
I uninstall W2000 before installing W2003 (but the were
some trubbels uninstalling W2000). However, I have the
same problem when running W2000.

Try the following to see if it sorts the problems.

First, make sure that you have the latest drivers available for your
graphics card and printers. Then clean up your computer as recommended in
the following FAQs:

http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm

If you have Norton Anti Virus, make sure that the Office Plug-in is disabled
in NAV options. Then uninstall W2003 and download the eraser2000.exe file
from the Microsoft Office Support site. This will clean out all the registry
entries and other junk left behind by Office 2000.

At this stage make sure that your computer is correctly working and running
at its expected speed. You can download utilities from the Internet that
will run tests for you. SiSoft Sandra is an example and will help establish
that your PC is working at its best.

Then install W2003 and test again.

does not support Windows XP. Is there another program to
run to clear the registry entries (I think the registry
is my main problem).

If you are sure this is a registry problem, have you tried running the
System Restore and reverting to one of the previous checkpoints?
