Slow scrolling in Excel XP

Hello everyone,

I work with Excel a lot. I've come up against a few weird things in it
but this one I haven't been able to solve on my own and have not seen
it reported anywhere else so I thought I would post it up.

I have a problem with a large pricing model I have developed in Excel
XP. On most of the sheets I have hidden the rows past the end of the
input/calculation area (e.g. rows 265:65536). When I scroll down to
the bottom of this area, Excel starts scrolling very slowly and
jerkily. This only happens when I can see the grey area where the
sheet has been hidden; as soon as I scroll up enough for this to be out
of sight Excel returns to scrolling at normal speed. Some of these
sheets have lots of formulae (>10,000) and some relatively few (~300).

If I unhide these rows there is no issue.

This is quite irritating as I have to distribute this model to my
colleagues and some complain about this phenomenon. It also varies
from sheet to sheet (e.g. some identical sheets will work fine with
these rows hidden)...

Love to hear from you if you've ever had this problem, I expect it is
very rare. Even better if you have a solution!

Unfortunately I can't distribute the model for people to test as the
data is sensitive and it would take me a very long time to strip it out
and create a clean copy.

Thanks in advance,

Stuart

Excel isn't a real tool; use a real program like MS Access or Crystal
Reports.

Excel shouldn't be allowed on anyones' machines for any reason.
