Slow start and shutdown

Hi all, Using Winxp pro, access xp, with database split in front end
backend, no network or other users. I started linking ole (word) docs
instead of embedding a couple months ago and noticed a change in startup and
shutdown process. can take 2 - 3 minutes to start program and mostly first
time i start. faster if i shutdown and restart. would this be due to linking
or is it a windows issue? thanks, ed
