Slow Startup of Outlook

Colin

Hello,
Over the last few weeks my Outlook has starting taking a
comparatively long time to open/start. Typically it
seems to take 2-3 minutes. I have Outlook 2002 with
Windows XP. Today it suggested I use 'detect and repair'
but it seemed little better after this. I using
Archiving and have a .pst file for this of 64meg. My
current Personal Folder is 8meg - so I don't feel either
of these are particularly big.

Can anyone suggest a fix/solution ?

Thanks,
Col.

Does it start quick in safe mode?

Start | Run | Type: outlook.exe | ok button

No - it took a similar amount of time in Safe Mode and
then suggested 'detect and repair'

Try running the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) against your PST file(s).
If you haven't disabled instant messenger integration, do that as well via
tools | options | other.

Do you have Outlook checking on a Hotmail account? If so, Outlook checks for
mail in that account while opening.

I've done the Messenger diable bit, can you give me a few
more details on how to do the scanpst.exe - for example,
do I have this .exe and how do I find it/direct it to
my .pst's.

Thanks for your help so far.

scanpst.exe is refered to as the inbox repair tool and yes, it is installed
when Outlook installs. location tends to vary based on language, but a
search via windows explorer should flush it out. (it is most likely under
\program files\common files...)

run the executable. there is a browse button that will present you with the
standard file open dialog box. go to where you keep the *.pst file(s) and
pick one.

ps - make sure you configure windows xp to show all hidden/system files and
configure th search to look for said types. the default location of pst
file tends to be under a hidden folder structure of \documents and
settings\<userid>\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook or
\documents and settings\<userid>\application data\microsoft\outlook.
