slow to load in print preview

I have been researching this but haven't had any luck finding an answer.

One of our departments has a mail merge file that looks great but when they
open the file in print preview - takes about 15 to 20 seconds to open. Same
if they make a change in the print preview view - takes about 15 to 20
seconds to open.

Using 2003 version on an xp box - pub file size is only 403 kb and merge
file is an excel spreadsheet 103 kb -- so it can't be the size of the file.
Both files are located on the same server within the same folder.

Removed the mail merge and recreated with the same result.

Changed default printers just incase it was a driver issue - but that did
not help.

Opened file from a different system - same result.

Anyone run across this before?

If you copy your data to the local hard drive, does it still take that long to
preview? Keep in mind with Publisher 2003 when you do a print preview all the
entries will be the same, this is a Publisher 2003 bug.

That is one thing I have not tried - I will move the files to the local C and
see what happens.
