slowing the page scroll speed during selection

S

Sharpeyes

Hello. When I try to select a block of words, the block sometimes extends
beyond the current page and I have to bring the selection arrow to the
bottom (or top) of the document window. When that happens, the page
automatically scrolls up (or down) to allow my selection process to
continue. My problem is that the page scrolls so darn fast that I always
overshoot what I want to select and select content beyond when I want to
stop. Of course, when I try to scroll backwards to correct the
overselection, I then overshoot in the other direction. Is there any way to
slow down this scrolling process? I thought initially it had to do with the
mouse scroll speed, but changing parameters on the mouse had no effect. Can
anyone help me? Thanks,

Doug Robbins - Word MVP - DELETE UPPERCASE CHARACT

Hi Barry,

Left click with the mouse at the beginning of the text that you want to
select, then use the scroll bar to bring the end of the desired text into
view and then while holding down the Shift Key, left click at that point and
the text will be selected.

Doug Robbins - Word MVP - DELETE UPPERCASE CHARACTERS FROM EMAIL ADDRESS
expounded thusly :
Hi Barry,

Left click with the mouse at the beginning of the text that you want
to select, then use the scroll bar to bring the end of the desired
text into view and then while holding down the Shift Key, left click
at that point and the text will be selected.

It would really be nice if they would fix this, but it seems to be a
feature. Would be far more convenient to be able to scroll to where you
want the selection to end. Wonder why they like it that way...

This *was* fixed in Word 2002 and remains fixed in Word 2003. You can't
expect fixes to be retroactive.

Yes, that is another good way. You can also use the rarely mentioned Extend
Selection command. It just proves that there are many ways to skin a cat -
especially in Word.

: I prefer to hold the Shift key down and use my four
: cursor arrows to highlight text.
