Small markings on pages?

Hi,

how can I remove small markings (don't know where came from) from pages? As
you can see there's small like line on a frontpage above text "Huom! Uusi
osio Kaarinan Luontokohteita!". Similar bugs appears on other pages too. Also
the line between photos and text box is thicker than others - this is only in
web-preview.

My page : http://luonnonlumoissa.fi/index.htm

Help please! Browser Firefox , FP 2007

I do notice what looks like a hyphen mark on your home page and at least one
other page. It is not immediately apparent what is causing it, or the reason
for the darker lines. It is probably a formatting issue, but hard to say.

It does appear you are using some non web friendly fonts such as 'Book
Antiqua' and have formatted some of the line spacing more than normal, but I
don't know how that would cause your problem.

If you would be willing to make a copy of your Publisher file available to
download, I and others would probably be willing to take a better look and
see if we can spot the problem. I would suggest you make a copy of your Pub
file, delete all but the first page, and maybe another page with a problem,
then go to http://www.yousendit.com/ and upload that reduced file, send the
link to yourself, and then repost it here so we can download the file.
www.yousendit.com is safe...you need not sign up to use it and it is free. I
use it frequently to send large files to people with dial-up connections.

Beautiful photography, by the way...

Simply examining the code of your web page reveals that what you have there
is a spurious underline code, although there is actually no associated
character. This is almost certainly caused by a bug in Publisher - there
probably were some underlined characters there originally which you have
deleted.
If you delete a section including some text from both sides of the spurious
characters and re-key as required, it should fix your problem.

Additional information! With Opera some bugs will disappear but the small
lines are still there. Tried to find'em from html too but nothing...

No surprise there. If you look at your home page source code, you can see a
stray character in a paragraph block starting at line 221.
This is in fact an underlined space, so you should also be able to see it in
the Publisher source page, but it may be invisible in which case it's caused
by a Publisher bug.
As I said earlier - try deleting the whole area and rekey it if you really
can't find the offending character.

Generally speaking, you could also make a much better job of your pages by
not using Publisher to make them, and given their simplicity it would be
quite easy to make them with a simple text editor and could create a much
more professional result. Try starting here: http://www.w3schools.com/ to
learn how to do so.

Go to View on your top Menu and check 'Special Characters'. This will allow
you to see the paragraph symbols, hard returns, spaces etc on your page. Now
go to the line directly above "Huom! Uusi osio Kaarinan Luontokohteita!" and
left click, drag to select the paragraph symbol, or whatever symbol is
there. Go to font tool bar and find the underline icon and click. (or Format
Font > Underline) Try a web page preview and see if the underline mark
has
been removed. If not select that character again, and again apply the
underline and then remove the underline. You could also just use Ctrl + U to
toggle between underline formatted and removing underline formatted.

If this doesn't work, I am still willing to look at your Publisher file as
per my other post. Just use the www.yousendit.com site to upload it and make
it available for download.

.

Hi again,

Thanks David! Removing the special characters worked fine! Now there's no
extra markings on pages. I used Book Antiqua only in front page title and in
texts "Johannes Lehkola" and didn't change them but no problem.

About using MP I just have started to work with pages and my time is limited
with it. Also keeping blog and forum "luonnon lumoissa" takes time but gives
more links, connections and save space from domain. Think I can build up
effective homepage with publisher - it just takes time...

Regards,

Johannes
