Hi Rachelle,

On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the Smart Tags
tab.
Select or clear the Label text with smart tags check box.

Hi Clare,

I've tried that already. It didn't work. Tried repairing Office, still isn't
working. Do you have some more suggestions? Thanks.

Hi. I am using Office XP. I am currently taking a course in Word XP. And it
describes there that I shoul dbe able to see a purple line and the smart tag
since it is turned on. But I already did all of the suggestions in this
newsgroup and still I cant see the smart tag. Please help me. Thanks.

Try the following:

- Go to Tools/AutoCorrect Options
- Select the Smart Tags tab
- Verify "Dates" is turned on
- Type the current date in a Word document and press Enter
- Hover your mouse over the date

Do you see the Smart Tag actions button appear? It should look like a
small circle with an 'i' in it.

I'm currently investigating a bug in the Smart Tags in both Word 2003
in which the purple dotted line no longer displays below the Smart
Tag, however the Smart Tag action button does appear. I'm wondering if
you are encountering the same issue in Word 2002. (Although the same
behavior does not occur in Word 2002 on my computer.)

Hi Beth,

I did what you instructed and I cannot see the small circle with an "i" in
it. When I type a name I see a lightning when I hover my mouse over the name.

Please help me, I cannot continue with my course since it is a part of my
homework. Thanks.

AutoCorrect may be overriding the Smart tag. Make sure you have
"Person Name" turned on under Tools/AutoCorrect Options/Smart Tags and
type the name in the correct case. IOW, don't rely on Word to
capitalize the words for you.

Hi Beth,

I still couldn't see the smart tag. Sorry about this. Do you have some more
suggestions that I can try? Thanks

I'm sorry, I don't. :-(

Smart tags should work just like spelling and grammar errors - if the
options for Smart tags are turned on then they should just appear with
no effort.

Aside from the issue I'm looking into (which I'm sure is caused by my
own doing) I don't think I've encountered any others who were unable
to see them.

Have you tried all of the various Smart tag types? I'd go to
Tools/AutoCorrect Options/Smart tags, make sure every type is turned
on and try each of them. I suspect you keep trying something that
isn't recognized.

Hi Beth. Happy New Year!

The smart tags seem to work for names and persons but it isn't working for
the date. Can you help me with this? Thanks.
