Hi,

I do now have a system with two machine.

Window server 2003+ Ms projectserver2003+windowsharepoint 2.0
Window 2000 + SQL 2000.

I use to have a system with project server 2002 and smtp is working fine.
After upgrade to Project server 2003, I leave smtp empty to stop mails.

Now I want to setup SMTP and email noticfication the question is how to
setup and config it right. I have been following instruction but fail.

I do have a smtp server Name : smtp.mydomain.com. I did not manage this
server.
Do this SMTP server need configure to allow my Projectserver and sharepoint
to use?

Do I have to setup smtp service and smtp virtual server at my Projectserver
2003(MyProjectserver)+Sharepoint 2.0 machine ? How to setup and configure
this.? Please give a exemple with SMTP server and Projectserver name above.

Thanks,

Certainly MS Exchange can be configured to allow relay from all machines or
just a selected few. You'll have to check/enquire how yours is configured.

If relay on your exchange server, then all you need to do is to add the
netbiosname or ipaddress of the exchange server, along with SMTP listening
port to the config in PS. You don't need to configure the SMTP service on
the PS.

Thanks for reply.

I still have problem with outgoing email and smtp setting.
Here is what i did.

At central administration/Operation/Outgoing email setting are:(I do not
manage the smtp server)
Outbound SMTP server:smtp.mydomain.com
From address:[email protected]
reply to address: (e-mail address removed)
character set: 65001(Unicode UTF-8)

this Operation setting are same with application management settings/web
application outgoing email settings.

At MyProjectServer machine the default SMTP virtual server/domains is
Myprojectserver machine name is local(default)
Is this a right setting for virtual server???

I tested smtp service manually in myprojectserver and it working fine.

Again thanks for you help.

thank you

The problem has been solved.

Mcafee VirusScan Access Protection prevent mass mailing worms from sending
mail causing the problem.
