My access application generates .snp snapshot files. That is working
fine. But recently I went to open one of the snapshot files by double-
clicking on it in Explorer and I could not believe how long even the
smallest.snp file took to open. I don't recall it ever being slow
before, but then it's been years since I probably looked at one.
If I open the snapshot viewer manually first, I can open the .snp
files quickly. On all my other computers that I use for testing my
application with different versions of Windows and Office, the .snps
open quickly from explorer, even over the network to my PC. But on my
PC it is sloooooow.
I tried replacing the snapview.exe with a newer version just by
putting it in C:\Program Files\Snapshot Viewer and temporarily
renaming my previous snapview.exe but it made no difference. So is
there some way to actually uninstall the old one and then install the
new one? Or anything else I can do to speed it up?
I became aware of this today when I was demonstrating my application
and wanted to show them how they could just open the generated .snp
files from the desktop and was shocked and embarrased at how slow it
was.
