So is my database completely gone?

Hello all,

I've been using Outlook 2007 with BCM for about two weeks now and I've run
into an issue. I was uninstalling some programs today to free up some space,
and decided to uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express as I wasn't using it for
anything else (or so I thought). I had installed it with VS2005 and hadn't
used it for anything yet.

Well, I unistalled SQL Server 2005 Express and it turns out that BCM was
using SQL2005E to connect to it's database. So I reinstalled SQL2005E and
it's not able to find my old database.

When I uninstalled SQL Server 2005 Express, did it take my database with it
or is it still located somewhere on my harddrive and I just need to reconnect
to it?

Any thoughts you could offer would be greatly appreciated :)

You can normally find the SQL .mdf and .ldf files in the following location:

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Business Contact Manager

Windows Vista
C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Business Contact Manager

I just "fixed" a simular problem, I had to reinstall the BCM Update after
reinstalling the SQL Server. Your database isnt gone it is just unaccessable
because the SQL Server isnt configured to run with Outlook BCM. Though you
said you uninstalled your SQL Server, if you want to access that database you
will need to reinstall the Server and then the BCM update and let windows
installer configure your Server to work with Outlook with Business Contact
Manager to access the database.

After reinstalling the SQL Server and BCM Update you will need to run the
BCM configuration screen to reaccess your database.

Note: It is a good idea to back your databases often to avoid issues in the
future should they arise.

Without the SQL will not be able to access your database.

Hope this helps.
