solid hyphen

Is it possible to use a solid hyphen? I have this in my footer:

------------------ Notes -------------------

and would like to have a solid line rather than perforated.

Actually, I would also like to make it thinner. Is this also possible?

Thank you very much.

Thank you very much, Mark!

Steve,

You could use several adjoining em-dashes (CTRL+ALT+NumPadMinus),
which in most fonts look like a continuous line. Maybe experiment
with fonts and sizes to find those that look best. The only
other way I can think of would involve using 2 drawing-object
lines surrounding 'Notes' (or, perhaps a bit safer, surrounding
a borderless textbox containing the word 'Notes'). This isn't
exactly fraught with peril but it could get messy if you're not
really careful about it. It would give you full control over
the line's weight, length, etc.

Intriguing idea, though I doubt that it came from me. I would be inclined to
use a string of em dashes. <g>

Your answer to which I refer had to do with creating a
rectangular check box in line with text. Your answer led
me to realize that a non-breaking space allows character
and text formatting to be applied to spaces. I applied
that knowledge to my suggestion.

Ah, yes, this is the secret to underlining trailing spaces, too.
