Solid vs. pattern

I put an autoshape behind a text box and a table and set it to fill in a
solid color and send it backwards (in the order). Then I set the color to 90%
transperancy cause I plant to put a photographic background. But when I am
printing it out, I am getting a pattern rather than a "solid" transparent
color. No matter what dpi I use on the printer, the pattern won't go! And I
haven't selected or even touched the fill effects thing and gone into
pattern!

What version Publisher? Is your printer driver current?
Are you using a laser printer?
I experimented with the transparency in Publisher 2003, I used the black fill at
various transparency levels, seems 75% is the threshold. I get the patterned look
with anything above 75%.

I did not try this on my color printer.

Hey Brian, How's it goin'?

The first article addresses PostScript printers and texture transparency.

I can do an autoshape color transparency and put an image behind it, it prints fine
on my laser. A transparent texture will print okay too.

Yup....very few drivers will work. I am surprised yours does. MS is able to
reproduce this internally on many drivers, so they are looking at addressing
this for Office 12. It's a bigger issue than they had thought.

Sorry for the delay in the newsgroups and assistance. With my work
conversion that just took place, I have been busier than ever...and had gone
from 45 hour weeks to 70 hour weeks...but now I am back to 45 hour weeks. It
was just a lot of change and organization that we had to work out. During
these few months I had to prioritize. And unfortunately the decision was to
neglect the Publisher newsgroups based on having been doing this for almost
8 years without absence.

In addition, it's summer time and there isn't newsgroup access on the golf
course (at least not yet :)), so I have been enjoying the outdoors as well.

I am hoping to be back on track now!

Hi everyone, thanks for all the answers. I found out that if you put a
picture behind the transparent image, it prints ok. But if theres nothing
behind the transparent color then it prints out all wrong.
