If you are attempting to import or link to an odbc datasource and the setup
procedure terminates when you select ODBC datasources as the filetype in the
file name/type dialog, you may be encountering an issue with Norton
(Symantec) anti-virus configuration. I found this very useful post on this
forum and was unable to find a suitable kb article, so I would like recommend
it.
The thread initially suggests registration server steps, which I did not
require--the problem is with Norton's MIcrosoft Office add-in (which doesn't
seem to give any indication it is interferring with day-to-day).

I'd like to mention that I had tried to resolve the issue with detect and
repair as a first step, but the problem lay elsewhere. The problem with the
add-in is documented in a kb article, but there is specific mention of the
kinds of issues that you would encounter (as of 3/28/2006).
Thank you Wei Li for the solution.
