Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

ATTENTION!!!

I have discovered something that I suggest all entourage 2008 users check if using entourage 2008 behind a proxy.

If you find you are using a pac file proxy configuration (Automatic proxy configuration) and you are finding entourage crashing please switch over to a manual proxy configuration.

I found since switching over entourage has not crashed once.

After discussion with our IT department outlook for windows does encounter similar issues on occasion, but i've been told other mac apps have similar issues using proxy pac configuration.

If you find this change has solved your crashing issues please let me know so other users don't suffer from entourage crashing constantly.

Thanks.

Jon.

How do you know you are using a pac file ...??

Where do you look and how do you check it?

Go to System Preferences in Mac OS X -> Select networks -> Select the active network device from the list -> Click Advanced -> Select Proxies -> Under the configure proxies options you will have manual or using a pac file, if you have the pac file option I suggest trying the manual option.

These is also an option under manual to check the pac file option, i suggest un-checking that option and checking http and https instead and type in the name of the proxy server and port then try again.

I can happily say that this has resulted in zero crashes or entourage 2008 since switching from pac to manual.

Thanks.

I have my Network settings as you outlined. But Entourage continues to crash. Here is a bit of error message I get:

I also found that Entourage 2008 would crash after updating using the 12.2.0 and 12.2.1 patches. The crashes would occur when downloading pictures embedded in the email, or looking at old emails that already had the pictures downloaded. Also, printing an email, even without the pictures downloaded, would cause Entourage to crash. We are behind a firewall, and changing from the pac file to explicit proxies for http and https eliminated the problem.

I have often crashes in JavaScriptCore No Proxy!
OS X 10.5.8 and Office SP2

I've seen one report where upgrading to Snow Leopard fixed this, but others
that upgraded said it did not help.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it¹s your User¹s folder that contains the problem. Test some examples in
a new Entourage Identity in the new User.

If this is a font cache issue, try trashing the
com.microsoft.browserfont.cache, you can also try trashing the
tasmanbrowser.cache, which will be found in your ~/Library/Caches.

It's also possible you got hit with the Safari WebCore and/or
JavaScriptCore.
