Solving BCM Installations

T

Ted

I had tried to reinstall BCM several times and finally contacted Microsoft
via email for support at:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&x=2&y=7&prid=7297&gprid=36066 .

Within one day I had an email response that solved my problem in a couple of
minutes. My problem was that BCM installed but would not show in Outlook. For
the server problem I would recommend contacting Microsoft at the above
address. Here are the instructions I received for my problem.

Step 1
=======
1) Go to START> CONTROL PANEL> ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS (you need to be in
classic view to see this option)> SERVICES

2) Ensure that the MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM is started.

3) If it is not started right click on it and choose properties Click on the
drop down menu on this page and change it to automatic.

4) Click the start button

5) CLICK OK.

6) Close everything down to the desktop

7) Launch Outlook 2003 again

Step 2
=====
1) Open Outlook. Click on HELP> ABOUT MICROSOFT OUTLOOK> on the bottom
right hand corner of this window CLICK on DISABLED ITEMS

2) Do this by CLICKING the item so it is highlighted, then CLICK the ENABLE
button. (repeat this process until all BCM items are enabled)

3) Close everything to the desktop

4) Launch outlook again

Step 3
=====
If you are not prompted to associate BCM with the current outlook profile

1) Open Outlook. Choose FILE> DATA FILE MANAGEMENT to add a Business
contact manager database

2) Shutdown and restart outlook

3) Test if you can use BCM
