Some of my Excel files won't open

A few others have mentioned the same problem, but I haven't seen an answer that has helped.

The .xls file I want to open (6.3 MB) shows up in Finder, appears to be loading, but a new blank workbook shows up instead. I can see my file in Quick Look.

It has been opening without a problem until today- the only thing that has changed from previous use yesterday is the size of the file and the number of embedded Word docs.

What is the solution?

How are you opening the file (e.g., from Finder, using File/Open...)?

I have tried using Finder and using File/Open without success. What do you suggest?

Don't have any other suggestions - what is the size of the file? How
many embedded Word docs?
