Some same content for all pages

Dianah

I created calendars that display on each page of a website that I created.
The calendars are each created in their own table and are then nested into
cells of another table and rest beside eachother horizontally.

These calendars exist on 5 pages in this site and I have to edit each one
every month, moving them so that only the current and next 3 months display.
So I delete the past month, move the existing 3 to the left, once cell, then
I add the next month so that 4 calendars display all the time.

Is there another way to do this without having to edit every page. This is
rather tedious. Is there a way to pull it in automatically, or something.
I'm not sure if I asked the question correctly.

Thanks in advance. Diana

Look into using the FP Include Page component..

Thomas ...
I'm unable to find it. I don't know where to start when it comes to
starting the feature. I haven't done it before. I looked in the web
components, but I don't see it listed. I tried "help", but still couldn't
find it. What am I doing wrong? (Using FP 2003).

Insert Web Components | Page | Included Page (or something to that effect.
I'm not at my FP 2003 right now.

Hi Dianah,

One way would be as Thomas mentioned using the include feature. First you
would create the calendar page as a separate page. Then do use it as an
included page..open the page you want it on..then do Insert | Web Component
| Included Content | Page (I find it better to insert the included page
into it's own table)

Since you are using FrontPage 2003 however..you might want to also look at
what are called "Dynamic Web Templates"

You first have to create a page with nothing but the calendars, and save it
with a name such as calendar.htm
Then you need to clear the space that contains the calendars on the five
pages.
Then in each of those five pages click in the space where the calendars used
to be and then on the toolbar select:
Insert > Web Component, in the next panel select Included Content and then
in the right hand side select Page, then browse to calendar.htm select it
and click OK. Save each and publish.

Then after you're done, the only page you have to edit is calendar.htm, save
it and publish and all five pages will be updated

What you are doing is inserting a web page inside another web page.

Here's one simple example of how an include is used.
The left navigation panel here is an include, www.95isalive.com
the include page is www.95isalive.com/nav.htm

Steve ... and others thanks for your help. I'm gonna do it right away here
and see what happens.

Steve ... question for you. On your 95isalive page that you used as an
example ... I would have used a frame in that instance (although I'd like to
not use frames, but don't quite know enough yet). I'm getting there.
What's the different for what you did, in using an include page instead of a
frame?

I'll go through your instructions (and others) in the meantime, to see if I
can get the include to work for my calendars. This will save me a lot of
work, in the meantime.
Thanks.

You don't need a frame, you can set an include page inside a table or a cell
in a table.
On the page I showed you, the include is the left column ( also called a
cell ) of a two column table. The table width is set at 100%, the left cell
is set at 21% and the right cell is set at 79%

The reason the include fills the screen when viewed by itself is so that it
will expand and contract inside the left cell at different browser
resolution settings.

You can use an include in a frame if you want to, it's just a matter of
personal choice. I just didn't want to deal with a second scrollbar for the
left side.

Wow ... how interesting.
Does that mean I could get my site to look like frames (I don't like the
scroll bars either) without using them. The page I'm doing this in has 3
frames and I don't like how the frames work. The link to it is below.

Can you take a peak and see if what I'm trying to achieve could work without
frames. It's just a site for a church ... the creative arts ministry ... no
advertising. I'm heavily involved with the music side of it (my creative
side has a hunger). http://members.shaw.ca/cchoir. It hasn't existed for
that long and is only recently been used more than it was (since I expanded
it). It was only 1 page until a couple of weeks ago, so I reset it to 0. I
was asked to expand it so that other groups could access it as a means of
communition. A couple of people have asked for a discussion page where they
could submit messages, so that's my next learning topic. There's a lot to
learn.

Supplemental ... to achieve th look I want "without frames", can I put two
tables on the page beside eachother. That's what I'd need to do ... or is
that how it works in the first place?

Thanks again. Diana

It worked ... it worked ... thanks sooooooooo much. This will be such a
cake walk now. Wow.
Now to see what I can do with the left frame ... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Diana

I have a small application called calendar wizard I think it
is from microsoft somewhere, only about 75 kb happy to zip
it up and mail to you ?

address is valid less the spam block

Do you think it's something that can behave as an HTML ... down the road,
I'd like to create a calendar that will link to a flyout page ... i.e.,
allow me to click on a date in a calendar, then expand out. I'm think it
might be more appropriate as this site developes into something that is used
more heavily and as there is more activity. If you think so, I'll send you
my email address ... have spam blocker but I can veto it. Perhaps we can
agree on subject content so that I'll recognize it.

I did get Steve's suggestion to work. The web component ... include ...
page worked rather nicely, which is great. I know I can use it for other
things down the road as well.

Whaddaya think? Diana
