Some slides load slower than others.

Some slides load slower than others. All are to load on the click of a
mouse, however, after @ every other slide the hour-glass pops up and I have
to wait somewhwer between 7 and 10 seconds for the next slide to come up.
This just happened. I have done other ppt presentations without this problem.

It depends on what is on the slide, plus what is on the one that follows it, if
any. Do you have a video or large sound file inserted on the slide?

What Sonia said ... but also

Maybe you have your virus checker set to scan "all files"....if the next
slide is linked to something.... the virus checker may check the file before
powerpoint gets its hand on the file.
