Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have installed Office for Mac 2008 but am still have trouble with the formatting and links to embedded data in an .xlsm template that I mm required to fill in. It says , "Visual macros do not work in Mac office 2008 . To open the file and keep macros click Open." I click Open and it opens.
Then it says, "The workbook you opened contains automatic links to information in another workbook. (Th is is not accurate. The data is embedded inside this doc. I spoke to the woman who created it.)
It has 3 buttons: edit links; update; and IGNORE LINKS.

I click Ignore Links and the doc opens but some of the info and data are not appearing, tickable boxes are in the wrong place and overlap each other.
Anybody have a way to solve this? Is there an update available to help?

Hi Kate:

The boxes to tick are probably missing because they are produced by Macros,
and since you do not have VBA available in Excel 2008, they cannot be
generated.

The "links" could well be in the code, or you may find that the sheet
contains defined names that are linked to workbooks on the author's
computer.

Either way, you're not going to be able to handle that sheet in Office 2008.

Hope this helps

In addition to John's comments, it's possible that the workbook has been
built using ActiveX Controls that are not supported on the Mac OS.

For more insights on what the 'Links' refer to, once you open the workbook
go to Edit> Links. That dialog lists the links to source material & should
be able to help answer some of the questions.
