Re: Sony P800 PDA and Outlook

Hello.

I recently bought a Sony Ericsson P800 PDA/cell phone
combination, planning to use it manage an extensive To Do list.
The P800 is up to the task, supporting almost all the features I
need. Unfortunately, the software I purchased to manage the same
tasks from my PC, Lotus Organizer 6.1, is not up to the task.
Specifically, Organizer:
(a) allows tasks (To Do records) to be assigned only 1 of 4
priorities (priorities 1-3 and no priority). The P800 task
application supports 9 priorities;
(b) lacks a note field in its task record corresponding to the note
field in the P800 task record;
(c) lacks support for the P800's task folders. The P800 allows
tasks to be assigned to folders, each with a customizable
name. Organizer allows tasks to be assigned to categories,
each with a customizable name, but
on synchronization does not map P800 task folders to or from
Organizer task categories.

The only other PC software I am aware of that can synchronize
with the P800 is MS Outlook. Can you tell me if MS Outlook
supports function (a)-(c) above? Organizer's contact, calendaring
and notepad applications are adequate for my needs. Can I use
Organizer as the host on the PC for these applications, and use
Outlook solely as the host on the PC for its task application?

The one feature the P800 task application does not support is true
sorting of tasks by due date. Although the P800 ostensibly sorts
by due date, in fact it orders tasks in order by (a) overdue due
dates, (b) today's due date, (c) null due date, and (d) future due
dates. Do you know of a Symbian OS task management
application that does a true due date sort?

Incidentally, my P800 is running Symbian OS 7 and my PC is
running Windows 2000 Pro.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Yours Truly,

Don Forest
