sort detail section in a report

I have set the properties in the report to sort in ascending order by the
last name, but the detail section on the report is still not sorting
properly. I could not find a sort option in the detail section of the
report. What do I need to do to get the detail records to sort in ascending
order in a report (based on a query)?

There is only one sort applied to the report. It is not "per section".
What do you have entered in the sorting and grouping box?
