Hi Gordon,
Yes, I had it highlighted. I have been working with Word for many years,
but within the last few months have switched to Office 2007. Sometimes it is
almost like starting over again.
thanks, Gordon

I have to say that I can sort lists in Word 2007, so I'm afraid I can't come
up with any reason why yours won't...

Hi JoAnn,
They are separated by a new line. I just have a list of fragrances ie:
Balsam Fir
Holly and Ivy
Whisper
Christmas Memories
Roasted Chestnut Praline
etc.

I am sorry, it is Word

Have you selected (ie highlighted) the list before sorting?

More than likely you have something other than a paragraph mark (carriage
return) at the end of each line. Turn on your formatting marks (¶ on the
Home tab in the Paragraph group) and take a look at the end of each line. Do
you see a paragraph mark or a left pointing arrow? If a left pointing arrow
then those are manual line breaks which makes treats each line as part of
one paragraph. If you copied the content from a web page then that's how
they ended up that way. To correct it, replace the manual line breaks with
paragraph marks and it should work. To replace the manual line breaks use
these steps:

- Press F5 to open the Find and Replace dialog box
- On the Replace tab, in the Find what text box, type: ^l (that's a
lowercase L)
- In the Replace with text box, type: ^p
- Click Replace All

Note that you can also click the More button and use the Special menu at the
bottom to insert the Find What and Replace With codes, you don't need to
memorize them. :)
