Sort order in 2007

In Excel 2007 the file open directory sorts in horizontal order instead of
vertical order as it did on previous versions. Can this be changed?

Try this ---

On the HOME Ribbon
Click on Sort & Filter
Click on Custom Sort
Click to expand...
The Sort Critera Box opens -- at the top > Click on Options
The small sort Options Box opens
the box marked Sort Top To Bottom should be checked, if not, check it.

If that does'n fix it, then I'm lost
