Sorting Problem

HI,

I have a set of data, 37 columns in all. The first column is title
'Reference'. This starts from 1 up to 1416, which represent each row.
The next reference number after 1416 starts from 2000 and continues t
increase.

I am sorting the data by different columns. The problem is that thes
reference numbers (from 1 to 1416) are being corrupted. Many number
are repeated and the rest vanish. But in total there are still 1416.

I think the problem is somehow centred in the gap between 1416 an
2000!!!! I tried to change the format of these numbers and als
created formulas but it did not work out.
