Sound not working

I have a Compaq Evo N610C laptop. The sound works on my
laptop when receiving emails, playing music etc, however
when I create or try to play a powerpoint presentation
with a embedded sound it does not play. If the same
presentation is played on my desktop the sound will play.
If the powerpoint presentation is open, no office sounds
will play (outlook etc.) Any one heard of this?

It sounds as if a third party program has changed your MCI settings...
